Our History
A Church That Does Not Act Its Age
The journey began in 1802 as the people in the Cortland area offically formed the Methodist Episcopal Society. Since then, the church has gathered under many names and in many places, working to be the body of Christ to the area. By the mid 1990's the church building on Church Street, downtown Cortland, was in need of significant renovation. Rather than rework the existing space a new plot of land was purchased and in 1996 the church gathered in its new building.
Along the way the focus and practice of the church has changed to match the times around it while keeping the message of Jesus Christ central. We now continue that tradition as we celebrate God through non-traditional music, and innovative practices in worship. Even though we have been around as long as some of your grandparents, we are not exactly your grandmother's Methodist Church.
